Dissector of Daily Life
Curious to see how it worked I took apart my mothers antique clock at the age of nine. When my mother got angry for destroying the thing I tried to put it back together again. Although it didn't look at all like before, it worked. It was more beautiful than any other clock I had ever seen. It has remained unchanged since then and it still works!!!
I still like to work in this way; as precisely as a surgeon I dissect objects and their meaning. I separate function from decoration and shape from material. I value each and reassemble them in according to my standards. So that the objects are stripped of their innate context and put into new light. In this way the price of a vase becomes its decoration and the way a lamp is mounted determines its shape. The upholstery of a chair becomes its construction and the shade of a parasol borrows from the shade of a tree.
My main focus remains the useability of the object. The interaction between user and object creates an emotional relation. In this way a product becomes a cherishable object that comes to life when it is used.
I would like to call my products functional re-assemblies.
